On May 18, the expert team from FFRC went to Cambodia to carry out fishery research and conduct in-depth discussion on fishery cooperation and exchanges between the two sides, and Director Poum Sotha and Deputy Director Hav Viseth of the Fishery Bureau of Cambodia, warmly welcomed the expert team.

Director Poum Sotha said that Cambodia is rich in fishery resources, but is lack of scientific and systematic assessment, and the problem of overfishing and illegal fishing is still serious. At the same time, aquaculture industry in Cambodia develops slowly, and the industrial chain and value chain are not perfect, especially in the fields of seed, feed, machinery and processing. This year, on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cambodia and the “China-Cambodia Friendship Year”, the arrival of experts from FFRC and the solid research carried out by the expert team once again demonstrate the “hardcore friendship” between Cambodia and China, which will surely create new opportunities for the development of fisheries and aquaculture in Cambodia.

Prof. ZHU Jian, the leader of the expert team, expressed his gratitude to the Fishery Bureau of Cambodia for its support in this investigation, and he reported the progress and achievements of the research to the Cambodian side. He said that on the basis of this survey, FFRC will rely on the long-term and stable cooperation mechanism with the Fishery Bureau of Cambodia in the future. Under the LMC framework, FFRC will continue to promote pragmatic and efficient cooperation between the two sides in the fields of seed selection and feed development, integrated rice-fish culture, aquatic product inspection, quarantine and processing, digital fishery, endangered aquatic animals and fishery talent capacity building, and jointly serve to build a high-quality, high-level and high-standard China-Cambodia community with a shared future in the new era.

After the meeting, Prof. ZHU Jian, Director Poum Sotha and Dr. Somony Thay signed the minutes of meeting and research reports on behalf of both sides. The signing of the two documents marks the successful completion of the Cambodian fishery and aquaculture industry research work carried out by the expert group of FFRC, and the “Strength of FFRC” has achieved important phased achievements in China-Cambodia fishery cooperation.
