Indica vs. Sativa

“Indicas originally come from the hash producing countries of the world like Afghanistan, Morocco, and Tibet. They are short dense plants, with broad leaves and often grow a darker green. After flowering starts they will be mature in 6 to 8 weeks. The buds will be thick and dense, with flavors and aromas ranging from pungent skunk to sweet and fruity. The smoke from an Indica is generally a body type effect, relaxing and laid back.

Sativas are tall, thin plants, with much narrower leaves and grow a lighter green in color. They grow very quickly and can reach heights of 20 ft. in a single season. They originally come from Colombia, Mexico, Thailand and Southeast Asia. Once flowering has begun, they can take anywhere from 10 to 16 weeks to fully mature. Flavors range from earthy to sweet and fruity.”

Cannabis Fact of the Week

“From 1850 to 1942, marijuana was listed in the United States Pharmacopoeia as a useful medicine for nausea, rheumatism, and labor pains and was easily obtained at the local general store or pharmacy.”

“The Controlled Substances Act of 1970 made it illegal to possess, use, buy, sell, or cultivate marijuana in the United States. The law classifies marijuana as a Schedule 1 drug, meaning it has a high potential for abuse and no acceptable medical use.”

What happened? There is a gap in our country when it comes to this particular topic and somewhere the truth has been lost. Some may say it’s a sign of evolution, that facts were uncovered about cannabis between 1942 and 1970 that revealed the first statement to be untrue. However, there is no evidence of that. The truth behind cannabis and the prohibition laws against it have yet to be explained clearly to the public. We must all start asking questions about the bans on this wonderful healing agent.

Cannabis Cup Comes to Colorado!

For the second year, High times will be hosting it’s annual Cannabis Cup in Denver, Colorado the weekend of 4/20/13. Medical marijuana patients, centers and vendors are excited to share in this important event. The city is expecting national and international visitors alike given this is the first Cannbis Cup to be hosted since the passage of Amendment 64 last November. We Coloradoans are proud to be the new Cannabis capital in the US. The cannabis movement is rapidly changing and evolving and we are glad to call the epicenter home.
